With London hosting the 2012 Olympic games, Team GB winning so many prizes as well as amazing opening and closing ceremonies, many came to realization that all the effort that was put behind the scenes to win and deliver this event was well worth while, Britain not only inspired the nation but also the world.

Just like athletes, from time to time we all tend to find ourselves in a “stuck in the ruck ” feeling. We tell ourselves that if our ship ever did come in we would be waiting at the airport. We  tell ourselves that it is always “one step forward and two backward”…oh yes, its really easy to get ourselves into a world class “funk”.

Its very tempting and easy to lapse into lethargy and become stuck & immobilized. In fact, thats the response of the majority of the people out there.

However, every athlete has a coach that when things get tough it helps them adopt a very healthy, winning, competitive and positive mindset.

So if you really want an extra edge over everyone else that will help ensure your success, become one of the few who can get out of a funk. It isnt easy but it can be done with some work on your part and some help when you need it.

You too can regain and maintain a positive mental attitude. I will share with you few simple steps to help you do that very thing:

1. Fill up your “hope” tank.

This means to start initiating things that might come back to you or that might grow into something of value. For example, if your job has gone from bad to worse, update your resume and start sending it out. Enroll in a course to upgrade your skills. Order something exciting by mail order. Plan a trip. These are all hope fuel for the future.

Just taking these steps will energize you and give you a sense of optimism, because you have things to look forward to.

2. Start a project that has nothing to do with your problem

For instance, start cleaning out your wardrobe and getting it organized.

Learn to sing. Commit to a running program. When you pull your focus away from  your problem, it actually makes you more open to creative solutions. Often they’ll come to you while youre engaged in an unrelated activity.

3. Make a list what you know will bring you out of a funk

The next time you’re struggling and need a lift, consult this list and take action. Sometimes you absolutely have to force yourself to do this.

(This is similar to how we want to slap that perky person who insists on telling us to have a terrific day when were feeling grumpy.) But if you drive yourself, the momentum will kick in, and your  attitude will improve.
